ESL (English as a Second Language)

Hello! I am Savannah Kilby, and I am happy to be the English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher for Moravian Falls Elementary School. I am a proud graduate of Wilkes County Schools, and I am blessed to be able to give back to the community through my commitment to education.
I graduated from Appalachian State University in 2015 with a degree in Elementary Education. I began my teaching career at the elementary level, teaching Kindergarten through third grades. I have now found my passion for teaching English as a Second Language. I currently teach ESL at Moravian Falls Elementary, as well as West Wilkes Middle and Mount Pleasant Elementary. I cannot imagine teaching anything else.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, playing with my dog, Xena, and reading. My favorite children’s books are The Little Prince, Oh! The Places You’ll Go, and You Matter. My favorite chapter book series is The Boxcar Children series. During the summer, I love traveling and exploring new places. I am also currently learning Spanish, and while it is fun, it is not easy. I am in awe of my English language learners, as they are brilliantly able to learn and use English at school while continuing to use Spanish at home daily. My students are incredibly inspiring, and they are the reason I love teaching.
